Frequently asked questions
Rescue: illness or accident?
Firstly, you should distinguish between illness and accident. Illness is always governed by the Health Insurance Act (KVG, also known as mandatory health insurance). The conditions are the same for every health insurance company.
If the medical emergency is an accident, there are two possibilities; if you work more than 8 hours a week for an employer, accidents are regulated by the Accident Insurance Act (UVG). If you work less than 8 hours a week, accidents are also covered by health insurance (KVG), as in this case the accident is settled via the compulsory health insurance.
